Home on the Range

Between the cuteness and the feeding and the cuteness and the playing and the cuteness, it’s sometimes easy to forget why we have goats.  They are, first and foremost, a four-part low-emission brush mower, and we finally got them out into the woods to prove their ability.

Moving the goats away from their shed required giving them something else to live in.  My dad and I threw together this simple pallet-based three-sided shed over the recent long Memorial Day work weekend, and Amy and I finished it up and moved it out to the woods this weekend.  It’s quite heavy and sturdy once assembled, but comes apart into separate sides and top for transportation.

We cleared just enough brush to get the electric fence in this area in the woods, and the goats have settled in nicely.  Now we’ll see how they do eating it.
