We’ve had the same weather roller-coaster this winter that much of the country has experienced. The upper-Midwestern version of this roller coaster is a bit colder, of course, as was quite evident this morning. It was about -9F early this morning, with wind chills substantially lower.
The chickens got some hot oatmeal and extra scratch to help them keep warm, and for once I left the coop door closed. I topped off the heated waterer used by the cats in the shed (they’re still confined there as they learn to consider this ‘home’), since it shuts off its heating component if the water level drops too low. The cats are all fine, hanging out in the rafters.
Apart from being incredibly cold, it was quite pretty this morning. Wednesday’s snow is still stuck to everything, the moon was bright, and the sky very clear. Seeing evidence of the sun before 6:30 is proof that spring is indeed coming.
