Between the various stresses of losing their old alpha chicken and moving in September, being inundated with new pullets in October, and seasonal molting, the three remaining hens in our original flock haven’t been laying much (ok, at all) for the past couple of months. Buying store eggs is a real bummer.
I’ve been anticipating the time when the new girls would start laying, and was delighted last Wednesday morning to find a small egg on the floor of the coop! (It always seems to take new layers a day or two to figure out the nesting box.) There have been a few more since, and I suspect it’s Pepper (the black Jersey Giant).
